Since graduating from Maine College of Art in 2006, I have taught art classes at MECA through the Continuing Studies Department, at Oak Street Studios Children’s Art Institute, at drawing room, and privately in my studio.
At MECA I teach Mixed Media Portraiture and Life Drawing, and this fall I am also teaching a new class, Mixed Media Self Portraiture. Studying self-portraits of artists through the ages will provide inspiration for students to create a series of self-portraits using a variety of drawing media. Students will work from direct observation, as well as from memory and dreams.
I am currently putting together a curriculum for an Introduction to Print class for the MECA CS Spring semester.
At Oak Street Studios I worked with children from ages 2 1/2 - 14 years of age, doing a variety of projects including printmaking, sculpture, drawing, painting, digital work, fiber arts, costume design, bookmaking and more. At drawing room I taught several self-portrait intensives including Exploring Self: A self-portrait intensive, and More Intense: further exploration of the Self-Portrait.
I have discovered that I particularly enjoy working with teens and adults, and my private classes focus on this age group. Currently I am working on Monday afternoons in my studio with a group of 12 -13 year old girls. We worked together last fall and spring, and our next 8 week semester starts October 20th. I am also currently tracking down a space to teach an afternoon figure study class for high school students who are applying to art college and need life drawing in their portfolios. This class will meet once a week for 2 hours and will start in early November.
